So, one of the (few) things that Itchy failed the MOT on was the battery not being secure. Rather than heath robinson some kind of contraption in place I decided to invest in a rather nice battery tray from YRM - not cheap but saved me loadsa time I don't have.

So, got the tray in with very little hitting - although them nuts were a bugger to get on!



But when I went to fit the clamp I realised I had a problem...



When I bought the battery I got one with the terminals the wrong way round. It didn't matter then but I'm not too sure that a +ve resting on an earthed clamp would be too good an idea. Then I had a good idea...



I needed something long, thin, strong and non-conductive. And I don't need a smart, black, leather belt.

Ps my battery is secured, but the brace goes the other way (between terminals)

Is that clamp shaped so it fits on the right angle edge of the battery to hold it down

this may be different to yours its just a thought

how did you fit the bottom of the tray? I looked at the yrm fitting pictures but they aren't that explicit

do you have to drill a couple of holes in the existing shelf?

did mine similar, luggage strap under tray and over top of battery :O)

Yeah, the studding goes through threaded holes in the tray so the metal strip goes across the middle of the battery. I coulda modded it but I preferred the leather belt option!

Yeah, and the holes in the YRM one are just too close to the end so the nuts are right up tight to the angle under the shelf. And, as the new shelf is lots longer than the existing the two at the other end bolt to thin air. So I had to drill two new in the middle. I'm going to email them some redesign suggestions.
