Just a quickie, this cold snap has finally killed my battery, only just managed to get her going this morning so i thought i'd treat her to a nice shiny new one, old one is stamped 2005 so not bad i guess.

Got one from Performance Batteries on the way, good price too, 640CCA for £58 delivered.

The question is, as I have never disconnected the battery on the old girl since I've had her, is it OK to just disconnect and replace or will it upset the immobiliser in a way that could leave me stranded at work?

I have had mine disconnected loads of times when I have been welding....sometimes for the all the weekend - put the connectors back on, and never had a problem.

So for the few minutes it takes to change the battery, can't see you running into any problems ;)
 
Odd, as I have never needed to resync alarm plipper etc (mines the 2 buttom fob if that makes any difference).

Get a little chirp when you connect the batteries from the alarm, but nothing else and everything works straight away - except the radio....

That makes no sense, disconnecting either pos or neg will break the circuit therefore once one is off the other might as well be, not arguing like, it's just basic electrics theory.

Thanks for all the tips guys, should be here tomorrow hopefully, maybe weds allowing for the lovely weather :)

The alarm plopped is not synced anyway as the original one bust and the spare is on a different channel, same frequency though, ow do I set about syncing this up??
 
Before disconnecting the battery ensure u have the radio code if it requires one.

As for the 1996MY disco:Be

As soon as the battery is disconnected the alarm BBS will sound, but doubtfull as their batteries don't last forever, mine failed years ago.

After reconnecting the battery the fob requires re-synchronizing ( 2 button) with the alarm ecu by pressing the lock button 4 times, according to the owners handbook, and which I have had to do.

And if it drops straight on to the battery tray lucky u, i had to move the front clamping post forward.

Before the 1996MY just change as it a single button system.

Thanks for that, same type of battery too, does look a bit fatter than one in there now.

I take it that I should have the doors unlocked/alarm off then disconnect.

Is the four clicks on the lock button for a one-button remote??

Alarm goes off when + is removed for too long though, or it does on mine
 
mines the 2 button type, can disconnect and leave disconnected as i have for many hour whilst welding..re connected and fob works fine, as does the alarm.
