my disco has developed this rev counter stopped working, and the battery lights comes on when I switch the engine off and take key out the lights stays on but when I turn the engine on the battery light goes off tested the battery with volt meter alternator is producing 14 volts etc any ideas???

New alternator needed. Diode gone inside it.

Or open the alternator and replace the diode pack.

Aye!!
If you pull the thin wire off the the alternator the light should go out and as rubythursday said..............new alternator needed.

Not very easy but that's what u have to do....unless the winding isnt burnt.

tiz an easy job to replace the diode pack and/or the regulator - hour or two at the most, including cleaning it.

so it is the alternator didoe or replace the alternator right easy enough but does this affect the rev counter too???

Yes - rev counter fed from alternator
