Hi All.

Just changed my clock out for a battery gauge on a 95 300TDi.

Wanted to keep my eye on the battery and have a clock on the radio, so seemed like a good move!

It was only done last night, in the dark! I used the green permanent live from the clock and earthed it across to the middle of the three dials. Still need to sort the light out for it - will probably just slice into on the the existing lights behind there when I can see what I'm doing tonight.

Anyway, I jumped in this morning, the gauge works great, seems to sit in the right place and you can see fluctuation if you turn on the heated seats or full beams (with spots). However the back of the glass is steamed up and the dial is warm when i touch it, not hot, just warm.

I accidently left the drivers side rear sliding window on the first catch over night, so there would have been moisture in the car, but none of the other dials have steamed up.

I suppose, after all this rambling  my question is...Should the dial be warm and have I wired it in okay?!

Cheers

Was it kept in your house all nice n warm n cosy before ya fitted it?

Cos if it were. That'll be why it has condensation in it now  ;)

Ya cannae change the laws o physics :D

It was in the house for a bit yeah...which would explain the condensation.

But I was still surprised the gauge was warm, making me think it shouldn't be wired in the way it is....anyone else have a warm battery gauge?!

my whole dash gets warm, think a vent pipe behind it isnt seated/sealed properly.

is it an OE guage, or an aftermarket jobby? what illuminates it?

It's a proper defender gauge with no current illumination. It doesn't get hot, at all. But if you out the back of your fingers on it then on one of the othe dials it does feel warmer!! Not to worry for now, it seems to be working so I'll see how it goes!! Thanks fr the help.
