After 2 years without a Rangy I missed it so much I've bought another one 2002 Vouge. And low and behold I'm back on here!!!!

The battery has been draining overnight. The alternater cct. is fine and it is drawing 2.5A when switched off, there was a noise in the cockpit and I got that down to the air con being faulty, so out came the fuse. Feeling chuffed I checked the ammeter & still 2.5A drain!!!!!! Next step is to pull all the fuses out one by one. Before I do this is there anything that goes on these normally????

I remember doing a 5 series BMW once and they have a sensor across the +ve & -Ve terminal that sometimes shorts out. Now the landy is a BMW is this an area for concern?

Any pointers would be appreciated and does anyone have a 2002 model technical manual available or site to download......

Are you sure? That's more than a casual drain, that's serious power.
Have you checked for the stuck headlight wipers? It's got to be something electrical like that stuck on rather than electronics not powering down.

2002 is hardly a Classic Range Rover (Built 1970-1995/6)

So is yours one of the last P38's or one of the First L322's??

You say BMW - so this is either an L322 which are mostly BMW or the 2.5 Diesel P38 which was a BMW engine??

There is a sticky at the top of the forum asking those that post to be a bit more specific as to which model you are posting about as the advice you require could be model, year and build specific, trying to decipher from the sparse information we usually receive is difficult...

Yes its an early L322 or so it seems.... it's a v8 and deffo not the P38 as that was my old one. Reading a few more threads on here it mentions the sleep mode, I guess you have to let it go into sleep mode before you check the current draw?? Definately 2.5A It does go into sleep mode as the light on the P goes out after a while.
I had a diagnostics tool for my P38, can you get the same for this type? Guess I'll check ebay for one.
Is there a method of turning this sleep mode on & off manually?

16 minutes to full sleep mode on the L322. Heater fans resistor is a common failure. AllComms (www.rswsolutions.com)is the best value diagnostic tool for the L322, or if you have the Cash Faultmate is the ultimate.

Don't want to be perdantic Nigel (second thoughts, yes I do) but the creeping practice on this forum of refering to P38's as 'classics' in the headings is contrary to the previously accepted description of the first series models. Several times lately I've clicked on a 'Classic' heading only to find the post actually refers to a P38.
Am I alone in this view I wonder?

What makes it worse - is this post refers to the L322...

But you are quite correct, the convention is:

Classic: 1969/70 - 1995/96
P38: 1994/5 - 2002
L322: 2002 - 2013
L405: 2013 -
L320: Sport (All variants as far as I know)
