I need to replace the upper and lower ball joints on my D2, is this an easy job or not?

I like to do as much of my own work as possible, but having had a look at whats involved with this one, I have decided to run a mile because that's how far it is to the nearest garage that specialises in Land Rovers.

I need my Disco every day and don't want it sat on axle stands on the drive whilst I spend a weeks worth of evenings, as well as a couple of weekends sat under it swearing.

The fact that my car came off a Scottish Farmer rather than a skool run Mum has also had an effect on making this decision.

Looking at the service manual, the ball joints need a special tool to press them out and the new ones in. I guess you could improvise something, but more extra work required there.

So I have decided to get some Lemforder ball joints from Paddock and give them and £200 to the Mechanic up the road.

If I had a second vehicle to use, then I would probably have had a go myself.

Pressing the old ones out and new ones in is the hardest part if you don't have a press. Some guys use a vice and suitable sockets. Do a search to see different ideas.

Thanks guys but I don't think I'll do it myself as I use the Disco for work and can't afford it to be off the road to long while I try it myself. I think I'll take it to someone who has the tool for the job.

A wise decision seeing as your circumstances are similar to my own.

I was quoted £200 plus parts (I will get the Lemforder items from Paddock so I know for certain a good quality replacement is being fitted) and that the job will take someone who knows Discos about half a day to do.
