Does anyone have a recomendation for replacement headlight bulbs on the P38?

HiDs might be nice. I have them on my Audi and no complaints. My headlights are pretty rubbish and I'd like to experiment with being able to see where I'm going at night. Radical, maybe...

Thanks!

Your headlights should be more than adequate for the performance of the P38. The reflectors get dull with dust, I read on here that it's possible to improve them by removing them and rinsing them out with water/washing up liquid mix. You could also try the higher output blue lamps. HID's will give you lamp fail messages unless you fit shunt resistors and ought to be banned IMO as they are a danger to oncoming drivers.
The other possibility is LED lamps which are now available from Hong Kong/China and other places. Still need shunts though. Look at mad hat mans post about fog lights.

thanks DT, much appreciated. I understand your point about the HIDs. LED might be interesting if they're lower consumption than standard.

Too many jobs mounting up for the lighter evenings...

Have to say the lights on my P38 are far superior to my current and previous company cars..(Current Astra SRi, Previous Pug 407 SE Sport) which are bloody awful for a modern car...!!!

maybe I've been spoiled by my bikes and the S4, but the lights on my RR are pretty poor. 14 years old tho, so maybe they could do with some attention.

Fit some hid xenons
The best upgrade you could do
Just make sure there adjusted so that there not dazzling other drivers

Mine are factory fitted and they still dazzle some drivers

100 times better than halogen IMO

Got news for you they still dazzle other drivers when they are adjust correctly. Should be bloody banned.

I fitted osram nightbreaker halogen bulbs in mine, standard wattage (55/60) made a load of difference

yes, not wanting to light up Jupiter, just wanting to see where I'm going.

I think I'll try cleaning the inside of the reflectors and then go for something less than HiD and more than standard. The Osram sound good.

Unless Land Rover have come up with some sort of new reflector plating method i would not touch then. It normally comes away at the drop of an hat. P38 headlamps, at least the ones on mine, are more than adiquate. In fact they are excellent. Dip is not brilliant but main beam cannot be faulted.
