Hey guys. So after a short drive out today I noticed after returning to the old girl that she had oil dripping down the wheel.

So after popping off the cover and cleaning it and drying it down that I was getting what I presume to be oil from the axle leaking from around the castellated nut.

I had a Google for what seal I needed but I was getting conflicted results and the haynes bible was showing me something different to what I was looking at on the car (guessing newer and older versions)


Can anybody point me in the correct direction of whatever seal I need to replace please

You need an oil seal as you say. The Haynes manual isn't the bible. Inn fact it's crap for guidance other than general maintenance. The picture shows an early version half shaft. There are two types. The early one has 10 splines and is secured with the castellated nut as per your picture, later type have 32 splines secured by a circlip. Irrespective of that they have the same oil seals. Access is behind the hub flange. If you don't have a proper workshop manual the solution is staring you in the face. Call Paddock and explain what you need they'll sort you out. As well as an oil seal you need a flange gasket . Both cost diddly. It's an easy job. Check your oil level in the hub once finished it may need a top up. Suggest you try to get a workshop manual Haynes isn't sufficient for full information.

Is there oil just for the hub? Or all for shared with the rear axle? Is it that little felt oil seal I've seen? I'd only need to take the nut and washer off for that wouldn't I?

I'll need to check out the manual. I think there's another one. Yes the axle and hub share the same oil, gear oil EP90.

Suggest you buy Hub bearing and oil seal kit. It's sold by Craddock's, Part no BK0001 for imperial £8.95 plus VAT & delivery. If you undo the castle nut and pull out the half shaft and/ or remove the drive flange you need a torque wrench to do things up. If you do not have a w'shop manual, you should get one as it'll tell you the torque settings. This is a job you could do yourself; a garage will charge probably charge £100-200 for something they can do blindfold. Good luck.
