Just had a look through sum old stuff that ah had saved and found this if it's any goog tae ye
Extended Breathers/DIY
These are the bits you should need
CDPL06G01 6mm > 1/8" bspp (90 swivel elbow) £1.14ea x3
CDPU06 6mm (straight coupler) £1.07ea x1
CDPUT06 6mm (T) £1.65ea x2
PNFM6/4BK 6mm nylon tube (30m) £17.86
(the part no's are CDG pnumatics and prices from cotswold hydraulics)

thats pretty much how i made mine buster, cept i nicked the bits from werk rather than buy em
the original series breathers had a spring loaded ball in em. while the pressure wur equal between the inside and out side of the axle it stayed shut and sealed so the water couldn't get in. when the pressure built up it , the pressure over came the tension of the spring and lifted the ball thus allowing the excess pressure to escape. once it had done so physics took over and shut pushed the ball down to reseal the breather.
which is fine with new ones but after a while the ball gets pitted and water can leak past, the spring rusts and breaks therefore incapable of hold the thing shut or the ball just gets rusted in the open position. ah reckon a new set of them would be just as good as extended ones seeing as how yer extended ones can block up just as much as the ball type will sieze up

they always fooked up tho slob
aye but when yer extended ones get blocked it can cost yer 2 or 3 sets of hub seals before the wise imform yer wots causing yer leaks.
look after yer normal ones and replacing them if fooked is cheaper and easier than fooking about with hubs seals and long bits of placcy pipe.

True but if ya get them high enough and where the **** dont get they should be fine, like ya say, if they are sealed. i used compressed air fittings.
