If you're stopped in a queue of traffic, in drive, with the foot brake on, how eager should the car be to move forward as you let go of the brake? I've noticed that sometimes it's pulling away (as I would expect is normal) as you release the brake and other times it feels very reluctant, with no power behind it at all.

Gravity and rolling resistance will play a big part here.

If you are sat at lights on an up slope it will not be as keen to move as it would on a down slope or on the flat. Not a good idea to sit at lights for any length of time with drive selected. Just as it's not a good idea to sit at lights in a manual in gear with the clutch dipped. Syncromesh on first gear was counter productive for the health of release bearings.

Didn't know about the manual. I assumed if the clutch was dipped then nothing was turning. Not that it affects me as I'm too lazy not to take it out of gear and give my leg a rest!

Flywheel and pressure plate are turning. First motion shaft and spinner plate are still, pressure plate weight is on rotating release bearing. Will eventually wear out first motion shaft pinion bearing and release bearing or at least shorten their life.

Just been thinking about this. If you're sat for any length, do you drop it in to Neutral or park?

Neutral. Being in park if someone rear ends you would make a mess of more than the arse end.
