Hi guys, I've recently bought a Disco 1 V8 auto and have just discovered that I can still start the car whilst in Drive. I presume this is wrong (and dangerous), any ideas on what the fault is please?

inhibitor switch which is also reverse light switch either bypassed or faulty,located in front of selector cable lever

Not as alarming as starting a manual in gear and no one does that very often eh. Starting an auto in D with a bootful of revs would be somewhat surprising though I imagine. American manual cars have a lockout so that you have to hold the clutch in before starting too.

It will also roll away if left in drive with the engine not running and no handbrake
