it was marked on the test sheet as a suspected oil leak. Also the question is should it have been up to the dealership that sold me the car to investigate it before they released it.And why is it not mentioned on the mot certificate they sent me ???
In a perfect world, they should have sorted it. However many dealers won't sort such problems.
The advisories are on a separate advisories sheet, but not on the MOT certificate. So did you get the advisories sheet too?

I had an oil leak for many years. I was told it was from the crank shaft seal. It was only small so the cost of having the auto gearbox removed to replace said seal then refit wasn't worth it. The effort to do it myself wasn't worth it. I later found out it wasn't the crank shaft seal when taking it apart.

I too had comments on the mot about an oil leak because of this. But only when I hadn't washed the oil oft underneath on purpose before the test to see if they said anything. When the guard was washed they said nothing. Same tester every year at a small mot centre. Secondly the mot tester won't know where it's coming from if the engine under tray is fitted and they don't have enough access to see. Some testers put down a note of limited access for inspection due to guards like this being fitted as standard to protect themselves. I've split oil down the side of engine, the ird etc many times. It happens. Sadly cars do sometimes leak. You have one of the best warranties on the market via the approved scheme. Try using it. Go in politely and talk to them about an oil leak you have just spotted. Leave the shot gun at home.

You have 3 option:
1. have a quick look yerself to see where it's coming from - doesn't cost anything
2. talk to an approved LR main dealer about getting them to look at it
3. burn it

I personally don, tthink a Landrover approved vehicle should be released with this problem.I wonder if land rover themselves know about this suspected oil leak.I doubt it very much.

I don't think an approved vehicle, sold from a dealer should have a problem either. However it's pretty much down to the individual who looked at it. If he/ she assumed it was spilled oil from a service, it might well be ignored. Also some dealers will actively ignore faults, so the cost of rectification is passed on to the warranty company later.
So you have 3 options like Hippo said. I personally would look at it myself first, so I know what's leaking. Then I'd have the knowledge to know if it's been fixed under warranty.

I have sent the managers of the dealership an email of my concerns and asked if the problem was dealt with so i await there reply.I will let you know there reply. Thanks for your input guys

Sorry Hippo the oil seal was fixed before they let the car go they sent me the pdf documents of work carried out at a cost of £1700 eventually.it was the crank shaft seal but the cars in the garage as we speak. It went in before christmas for a diagnostic on what i thought was a dodgy front wheel bearing and the hand brake wouldn,t hold and while it was up on the ramps they found another oil leek but couldn,t locate the bearing noise. So the vehicles gone in again for 3 days to see exactly what the oil leak is and have another stab at finding the bearing noise and found it was the transfer box that was kaput but land rover are paying for the replacement and the place i bought the car is paying for the hand brake sorting out.Not cost me a penny plus i got to drive a top of the range evoque for the day and now i,v got a disc sport for 3 days so alls good.PS you did ask lol

also the garage i bought it from said if Land Rover wouldn,t do it under the approved warranty they would send me a courtesy car up take mine to there place and do the work for free so they have been very good allthe way through it really

Did yer get it resolved?
Hi yes the oil leak was fixed by the garage that sold it me but i took it to local Main dealers for a rumbling noise in the front and the hand brake sorting out only for the to find the front transfer unit was shot so they fitted a new unit under the warranty also supposedly did the hand brake butthe rumble is still there and the hand brake is still iffy so its booked in this thursday for a diagnostic and try and resolve the issues under warranty
