Anyone looking to replace their sills soon wanting some steel box? My local stockist will only sell me it in 7.5m lengths :( (i need 3m)

Before I start ringing around looking for someone else to supply me with some box I thought i'd ask if anyone else was after some so we could split the load...

It would be 60mm x 120mm box at 3.5mm wall thickness

My plan is to make some tree sliders too to attach to the sills (tbh, i'm just copying what a friend did which has worked very well!)

Location: South Derbyshire, not a million miles from Swadlincote. Acutally - not even 10 miles from there, although, i try not to associate myself with the place

Arent you near me bump?

i may be interested as i want to make up some 3" tubular side steps with sliders, but 120 x 60 is feckin mahosive! why so big matey?

Yes I am - and I can deliver to Nuneaton as I drive there every fricking day at 5:30am :(

Basically, on the basis of what a friend did, by using the big box it allows the tree sliders to be bolted directly to the box (so they can be removed) but are low enough to not cause issues with the doors.

I'm working on the theory that his works very well!

Inc. VAT it's basically £100 for the 7.5m length. I need 2 x 1.5m so you're welcome to anything up to 4m really, and we'll cost it accordingly. (not cheap, i know)

They will cut to length, so, if you know what lengths you need I can get it cut for you and delivered in nice sizes.

I *may* be able to get it galvanised or powder coated too at very good rates as I have contacts in both worlds.

Where abouts are you? Have you not got a Metal Supermarket near you?

huh, never heard of them... now come the questions...

what kind is "normal" steel? Engineering? Spring?

What grade is "normal"

hmm "metal supermaket" don't have rectangular box section anyway as far as i can see

Seems expensive. I used a fair amount of 100*50 box on my truck for vairous things and dont recall it being that dear. Maybe 60*120 is a bit of an odd size.

Tempted to go pull my sidesteps and plastic arch covers off and see what i can knock up with what i have laying about.

60mm x 120mm is available in 2m, 1m and 450mm lengths on eBay from B E J Engineering. He may be able to supply steel cut to size for you.

Anything over 3m in length and you start hitting problems in finding couriers that will transport it.

Grade 43a was the old british standard for decent mild steel, but these new euro codes... fook knows without having my chart in front of me.

120s a bit big for me to be honest mate, tis too heavy. Im sticking to 80 x 40 :) its also half the price! lol

Thank you for the point in the direction of B E J Engineering - they look like a better option for me :)

where you located as iv some 60x100 box i did same bought a full length. just got half lying there now.

How much for 2 x 1.5m lengths and what is the wall thickness?

I'm not local to Leeds... but... seem to drive around the country a hell of a lot so it wouldn't be an issue to collect.

If it fits in a class 66 I can courier it from Leeds either Monday or Tuesday. Well Normanton/Wakefield if that's any good to you.

Thanks :) I'm sure it could do... or just two ratchet straps and on one of the empty flat beds behind you? ;)
