doing a service on my 2003 td4 and i noticed that the pipe from the egr valve was just hanging on it's own and also a long pipe at the crankcase filter housing. Anyone know where it goes?
The pipe across the engine is the vacuum feed pipe for the turbo boost control solenoid valve.
It should be plumbed to the vacuum accumulator (black plastic tank), below and behind the injector harness.
This is the vacuum boost circuit.
Note! The pipe marked 4, is the one that goes over the top of the cam cover, so is much longer than the picture suggested.
The end with the screw in it, should have a pipe connector, which the turbo boost control solenoid pipe plugs on, so it gets a vacuum signal. Without the vacuum, there will be little boost, if any at all.
The accumulator pipe connections, can be fixed successfully.
I've drilled it out to take standard brake pipe, which is secured with a generous helping of 2 part epoxy.
Ah i see , well I am soon going to change out the brake lines and so will have porobably an offcut suitable for this job .
Thanks for clearing that up for me , much appreciated .
looks like the vacuum pipes could do with replacing as the operation of the vacuum circuit is very important to the satisfactory running of the engine, I replaced mine with silicon pipe which should not wear through like the cloth braided originals
