found this in my dash what is it looks like some kind of regulator from lucas ive disconneted it and dont seem to do anything any idears ?

na the dim dip relay is next to it it is a regulator but for what i dont know im gonna remove the bottom part of the dash to find where the wires go

This is infact the dim dip relay. The smaller golden coloured relay does the diped beam and main beam.
The dim-dip relay circuit is suposed to make the diped beam(but dimmed) come on when you put the side lights on. The stupid thing never worked so you will never see any landys driving around with this feature working as the stupid thing costs £80 and lasts five mins before silly things start to happen with your elecs and lights come on randomly in the middle of the night.
The golden relay next to it simpley applies power to the other circuits that come on when the diped beam is on (fog light for example)
Don't waist your time following wires - i tried this and it WILL NOT WORK. The wiring diagram shows that it connects to 5 points all over the loom.
My advice if it was unpluged was to leave it unpluged, but put some sillicon grease in the plug to prevent water corroding the contacts together, put a bit of gaffer over the end (to stop it shorting on anything metal (mine did this a lot) and leave it exactly where it was - unless you want to try and get the two screws out that hold it on (not easy) and spend a lot of money not realy achiving much

thanks for the replys sorry ratty you were right i guess 
it was plugged in but did not notice it doing anything head lights deffo are not on or dim with it bloody wiring soo meny wires and connections that dont go anywhere

Don't worry about it, but i would unplug it if it is not working just incase it starts doing tricks on you. You can get them off ebay if you want some are going cheep but there is no way of knowing how long they will last (if they work)
