Ello chaps.

Quick question, anyone know if theres any way to disable the air con from coming on when you put your fans on windscreen demister position?

Whilst I do appreciate it clears the windows almost instantly, the problem is Im currently working as a delivery driver for dominos (yes, I know, worst choice of delivery car EVER. I use about £15-20 of fuel a night, seriously regretting it but needs must and its only temporary I hope), which means I gotta have the fans on windscreen postion pretty much permanantly because the hot pizzas belting out steam fog up the windows in no time, however I dont want the aircon on all the time either, because its cold as #### at night with the air con on, and if I wanted a cold draughty car that you have to wear a coat to drive, Id have bought a tratter! :D

am I missing a trick here ? just turn the heater control knob to the hot section and the air will come out hot, the air con will still dry the air, but hot air will come out.

the quickest way to demist a windscreen is air con on, temperature to hot.

the effect on fuel consumption tbh is negligible

There's a micro switch on the distribution control knob - unplug it

Ahh that would make sense, I wondered how it automatically came on, Ill have a fiddle and look for that.

Every little counts when it comes to fuel consumption for me, especially start-stop delivery driving. Im lucky to get more than 15MPG doing it, its ####ing atrocious. Also even with the heat on it still blows a mix of hot and cold at the same time, ####ed if I know how it does that. Plus I dont really like car heaters, I get a bit nauseous and drowsy with them on for too long, no idea why...

If you are only getting 15mpg then disabling the air con will make no difference. You are doing less than I get out of my V6 which most of my driving is stop start! Check the tyre pressure are 30psi as one tyre at 26 psi will cause more fuel to be used than the AC compressor.

Yep my tyres are all fine. Theres not really a lot I can do about fuel consumption, I do about 4-6 hours a night of constant 1-2 mile journeys, utterly guzzles petrol like theres no tommorow! :( Its the 1.8k series too which doesnt help, then again I feel sorry for the other delivery chap who has a big fully kitted out Disco! He reckons he gets through about £30 of diesel a night!!!
