I did a deeeeep ford sunday :) . Started ok this morning, but after work the battery was flat :(

I have a big switch on the battery so it can't be the rest of the electrics are draining any power, could the battery have shorted out when it was under water.

It's one of them ones with a red top and it isn't that old. Any offers to what it could be.:confused:
 
look at it another way you went thru a deep ford sunday, now look at from another side are yiou assuming that cus you went thru the ford that as caused the problem as it could be some thing else
 
I can get one of the electricial blokes at work to have a look, may be the alternator is shorting it out when it is running !:confused:
 
maybe its the master switch not making.... is the battery really flat or just not switched to the car?
 
i did the bro inlaws last week that was doing the same but he hadnt been thru a ford it was the alternator had packed up
 
I've got the charger on it at the mo, could be the main switch. It's only one of them cheap ones. Looks like it will have to wait till the morning
 
I had to get a tow to start it, after that it was running fine. Lights on no problem, just looks like the battery has gone flat
 
not sure if you know this but i will say it, every body thinks that if a alternator is fitted it the battery remains fully charged, it doesnt take all the cold weather the rain the dark, heater going flat out wipers going like hell and the lights blazing slowly but surely the battery starts to go down in power, if that power drops below say 11 volts the alternator wont re charge it cus your alternator is working every thing else so the power remains static in the battery untill you come to start it. the alternator as to be induced with at least 12 volts from the battery before it starts to recharge it

I had this after doing a dunk in my activar, had to bypass the switch it was only rated at 100Amps and was not up to it even though it was an FIA approved switch. Jai
 
I wouldn't mind betting its your switch as you say its a cheapo switch its rated very low and has got water in it and has some resistance making starting very bad. Do you have or use a winch??

Bypass the switch with jump leads on both terminals and try and start it. If spins over and starts ok the problem is the switch. dIf it doesnt go like normal Do NOT keep cranking you will flatten your battery and you will need to re-charge it.

If this has no effect place a jump lead from your Neg terminal on your battery and then place the other to a good earth point on the engine out of the way of belts and fans ect. If this cures your problem then its an earth problem.

Come back to us after you have done this it will only take 5 mins. Jai
 
Did my alt in me 110 in some deep water.And the handbrake.mabe it sludged up.What ford was it?
 
Anyone can think its this or that we can all keep guessing for days on end Non Mechanics will say its this or that and will often replace items before diagnosing the actual fault. Without easy but concise checks we have nothing to go on. (I am not a Mechanic but I do know how not to do it and thats guessing) Jai
