Good Morning fellow LZ members!!!

almost ready to get on the plane and leave for good old blighty. well, 9 days to go but whos counting

cant wait to get back in to the drivers seat of my lovely RR, but think i may have a problem when i get back that i need to investigate.

before i left UK, i ran the LPG down till i got the beeping saying there was no gas. not a problem, had a full tank of fuel. took it to the local gas place and we connected the hose. only 38.5L of gas went in before it shut off.

now please remember, i have a 90L tank. i know it wont hold the full 90, thats fine, but only 38L????

when i bought the car from Blackburn, i stopped and filled it up at the services and only managed the same amount. it has had to have a new pipe along the chassis as the old one was perished.

any ideas why only this amount going in? could there be water in the tank reducing the area for gas?

You should try a few pumps. They all put in slightly different amounts before shutting off. Half full is a bit strange, but it's nice to be sure.

Are you sure the tank is empty? Could the beeping be caused by a duff temp sensor or something else wrong with the system. On my system the empty tank beep is different to the "system error" beep.

I doubt water is in the tank. The system relies on tank pressure to drive the liquid out, I think this would happen if it was water or LPG. Your engine would just stop rather than beep.

I'd look at the valve on the tank first. It has a shutoff on the inlet attached to the level sensor float.

People sometimes bend the arm that the float is on to squeeze a bit more LPG in. If this has been bent the wrong way it'd shut off early rather than late.

If you run the tank down to empty, you can just unbolt the valve from the tank and have a look at it. Don't smoke whilst you do this. There will be a bit of a hiss as you undo it, but if the tank is empty it'll soon stop.

The arm for the float should be dead straight.

not sure about the valve or anything. it did have to be certified and put on the database, so i assume everything was ok. like i said, it had the main feed pipe replaced from tank to engine, so it should of been empty when i filled it.

I have a prinz system with 90 litre tank my gauge is so bad that I do it on the trip computer after having tried to fill up and only getting 40 litres in but then I am sure you are running it dry so might not be the same

I had no choice in what i had, i got the Romano system, some say its good, some say its crap. ATM i lean towards crap as i cant get more gas in it

the gauge after i put said amount in goes to all the green lights on, then i ran it till the red light came on and then beeped at me. still couldnt get more than that in.

Does it auto switch back to petrol? If not you could try pushing ya luck and see how far you get on gas

yeah it does. and if i try to put it back on gas, it just flashes at me

Screws my idea then, I ain't got a scooby about LPG to be honest, I only drive oil burners, just wish there was a p38 with a v8 diesel as standard!

I also have a P38 with the Romano installed. Takes 72L usually to fill it. Very rarely do I get all the lights on though at that. And if I do, its only for a couple miles.

Only get 200 miles from the tank too. So 13 mpg. Still, better than 18 mpg on petrol I guess.

Don't know anything about the actual system though I'm afraid.

if its a standard 4 hole tank then when they replaced the line(cant think why as usually they are copper covered plastic, they did not set the correct angle,in other words the tank needs turning,its similar to a fuel tank sender, if you held a petrol tank at an angle the sender would think the tank is empty cos it cannot float in the fuel as the fuel is all to one side,

takes a little time to set up but you can get it where a 90litre tank will actually take 80litres depending on the pump

as far as i know, they changed a plastic pipe which was fitted back in 2005. and a few unions. i'll have a check when i get back.
