Looked under the truck today, noticed on the back side of the front wheel where all the suspension joins up, there was a fair bit of dirty black oil from the gaiter down to the lowest point of the car and around that area.

Looked in Haynes, reckons its "almost certainly a brake fluid leak" according to its location.

Thing is i havent lost any brake fluid at all, so dont think its that. Anyone else any ideas?

have u got abs? i had a similiar problem. turned out to be a leak from the ABS sensor gaiter (swivel housing grease). clean the general area and then look for the problem. mrnice
 
I've got loadfs of oil round that area and on inside of tyre sometimes. I asked bloke who did me tracking to have a look for me while he was under there and he said the brake vacuum pump was leaking. Apparently you can't stop this so I need a new one but as it's not noisey I'll wait. they're a bit pricey at 90 odd quid.....how come the TD5 and the 200TDi ones are dirt cheap?? :confused:
 
I got a TD5, so hopefully it wont be to much then. Got the MOT in a month so prob wait til then and get it all done. Not looking forward to that bill, oh and tax is due too!!!!!

no it wasnt the brake fluid it was the swivel housing grease leaking out from the gaiter around the ABS sensor, i cleaned it up and put some normal clear silicone over it and problem sorted! ps look out for oil leaking onto the pads/disks, any oil/grease leaking onto the brake disk/pads is dodgy as f*!k and will result in the car pulling quite a lot to one side when you brake as the oily disk wont grab (ie: oily drivers side disk - pulls to the passenger side when braking) as i found out with my OSF disk recently :eek: scary!
 
just an after thought... you can usually identify what the fluid is by its colour and smell, and from that try to figure out where it can be coming from. that can sometimes be a help.
