hi guys ordered my lpg kit from tinley tech today should start fitting friday nice and early i have given myself till monday to fit it im told should be a sail with no snag's and the hardest problem being drilling and tapping the manifold i was told to do this with the manifold in situe and the hoover connected to colect the swarf, has anyone else attempted it this way? im a little cautious. anyone got any help or advise for me?will be most grateful.

Swarf inside engines is a bad thought however small the amount.Excellent chance that when you come to tap the holes out that some will enter the ports. Personally, I would remove the manifold for two reasons-one, there is unrestricted access for drilling and tapping reducing the chance of breaking a drill or tap (Although the manifold is aluminium, still use a lubricant), and secondly, to enable the ports to be blown through afterwards with compressed air to remove any debris. Plus you have the confidence that the job has been done right. When I fitted my new short engine last year I drilled and tapped the manifold before fitting and blanked the tapped holes with grub screws just in case I decided to convert to LPG at a later date. LPG is almost as dear as petrol over here so I have not bothered changing at the moment.

I thought you were getting a diesel?? Either way, I wouldn't drill any intake manifold in place, just asking for trouble I think, have it off and do the job properly rather then risk getting swarf into the engine.
