Evening,

Just got home and had a look under me bonnet to find a load of anti freeze and water has run down the inside of the wing underneath the coolant topup container. The coolant has pretty much all gone and looks to have come down the breather pipe which I found dangling loose beneath the topup container.

Where should this breather pipe be attached to, and should it be connected to anything, or simply left to "breathe"?

It's not actually that pipe that I'm on about. I was referring to the narrower pipe which runs out of the filler tank back towards the cab, near the filler cap.
Is that just a breather?
 
Bloody hell, if that's my overflow, ive got a serious problem. It looks like all of the water's come straight out of there

Im still no expert on the landys but i do tinker all the time with it these days and after redoing the whole cooling system new pipes and a good radiator flush etc i found after a good long drive i got a surge o heat caused by a airlock in da engine bay it spat water evrywhere loosing about 1/4 and after that was fine. dont know if that help any. good luck anyhoo.

If the system pressure gets too high the filler cap spring will be pushed up and the pressure with be vented out that pipe, it could be just that, your system pressure became too great OR your filler cap spring is not up to the job and its just letting it depressurise and spraying your water out.

Wait till its cold, top it up (don't worry about antifreeze yet - incase it all gets shot everywhere) and run it with the cap off until the engine heats up see what happens and report back, it should work fine, the water will cool the engine the heat will be taken away by the fan and everything is fine... but it seems it will not do this...

If it does work drain some water and put a gallon of antifreeze in...

I will run my landy to school in the morning (15 min drive) without the cap on and see what happens. I'll report back.

I'm hoping it's just an air lock!

So, thois is how its gone today:

Filled her up last night, checked this morning, totally fine. Drove to school, checked again and it's empty. The water has been blown out of the filler tank breather pipe.

What should I do to try and fix this problem?
The spring on the cap is fine.

Is a drain and refil the best bet?

its gotta be either combustion gases overpressurising the water or the water tank cap failing

get a compression test done and a sniffer test in the water (checks for combustion gases) and change rad cap (cheapest option).
 
yer dunt need a sniffer test, just fill it up, get it up to temp with the cap off. if yer got eggsuet gases in yer water you'll see little grey bubbles appear, and change yer cap as thats cheap and most likey yer problem
 
Alright cheers, I'll look for a new filler cap, and watch for gray bubbles tonight!

PS. I can't find water filler caps on paddock's website. Do they stock 'em?
