I've got roped in helping a fella who is probably the most non-technical person about but having said that I would appreciate a specific piece of information myself. The exhaust has been very badly fitted and the clamp (NTC 3608) which holds the downpipe to the turbo elbow (I believe it's properly called a manifold) requires replacing. Is this clamp designed to fit over both the elbow and the exhaust pipe when its done up or just the exhaust pipe itself?

The reason for asking is that I've not worked on a 200 TDi before and the clamp appears to have a central split running around its circumference to trap a belled ridge formed on the elbow outlet.

clamp tightens around the down pipe not half of each,it it should be supported at the bottom of block by a bracket too

Mine goes split flange on pipe over manifold, clamp over pipe. No bracket as far as I can tell, but may have been lost to time.
