It's not broken!

Having bought a set of Allmakes 4x4 pistons and rings, +20 thou, for my rebore, I tried to find out from the supplier and Allmakes if the rings come pre-gapped, as I understand the genuine LR are.

neither knew, so just wondered if anyone here knows. The alternative is to try the gap myself, but might just save myself the cost of a pair of ring pliers, and the grey hairs caused by tension while fiddling with the brittle things.

rings dont come pre-gapped lr or other ,bores are machined to piston size not book size as pistons vary per batch some upto 3-4 thou,

Thanks James, I suspected there was no short cut. I'd better get practicing:)

It's not a difficult task, just time consuming. When you push the ring down into the bore to check the gap, make sure that you push it down into the bottom quarter of the cylinder and then check the gap. It must also be sat flat in the bore, so use a piston to push it down. When filing the gap larger, do it in small increments and make sure you don't leave any sharp edges that will scuff the cylinder wall.
