i have the airbag light on as per title,issue is rh pre-tensioner open circuit.now i have tried the usual and checked the connection,then i replaced the rh pre-tensioner,each time the light went off for a while.my question is this is it possible that the airbag ecu is at fault or have i replaced a naff rh pre tensioner with another naff one?:confused:

It's possible that it just needs to have the fault cleared with diagnostics, how do you know it was the RH pre tensioner?. Could also be the wiring or the ECU.
 
i put a snap on reader on it which brought up the rhs pre-tensioner, i unplugged it and reconnected and it went away for a couple of weeks,tends to concentrate the mind at that spot.this morning i cut out the connector and soldered the wires but the results the same....bl**din air bag fault!!!

You start cutting SRS wires and soldering them together and you are surprised you get an airbag fault. You keep playing with them and you may get a face full of airbag when you least expect it.
 
The resistance of the wires and the incuded resistors is very precise, not a good idea to modify any part of the SRS system unless you know what you are doing. The tensioner, like the airbags contains a pyrotechnic charge which is fired by something similar to a light bulb filament, not a lot to go wrong and intermittant faults are unusual. Could be an ECU fault or the connector to the ECU or the wiring as well as the device itself.
If it comes up with airbag fault of course it could be an airbag fault not the tensioner.
 
sussed!!! i took a ride over to the range rover breakers in timsbury,Bath this morning to purchase a replacement srs ecu (thinking that it can't be the wiring)well after explaining to me that although he would sell me one if i insisted,he would not be happy to do so as it was much more likely to be the wiring. he explained to me the route the loom took on an example he had there.anyway upon checking mine i found that somebody had replaced the heater radiator by cutting the dashboard WITHOUT realising that the loom was behind it and had basically been chopped about.both the srs wires for the pre tensioner had been "joined" badly. as a sidenote it would appear according to rave that to fire a airbag you need to crash!! and i have included the relevant section for your perusal, after all if everytime you had an intermittant short or open circuit in your srs system you would have a facefull of airbag according to some on here.ps if you have ever owned a peugeot you will be very familiar with soldering srs systems

Let me absolutely assure you, you do not need to crash to fire an air bag. You should NEVER unplug or plug in any part of the SRS unless the battery is disconnected and the system has been allowed to discharge for at least ten minutes. You have been warned. Read instructions in RAVE for working on SRS system.
 
hi alll i have a problem with the srs light its keep comming on after i keep resseting it can u please help also i cant find the crash sensors at all thank u

If it is a single point system the sensor is in the DCU mounted on a bracket behind centre consul. If it is a dual point system the sensors are mounted i think on chassis legs behind front grille/head lamps one either side.
 
thanks i i think is a singlepoint cos i folowed the wires from the main ecu and they both leads to the centre console do u have any idea why i cannot clear the fault i have autodata and one of the main problem they say is the dampness in and to clean the connectors and i cleaned all that the connectors that i found but none in the shape that they show in the pic

If you have RAVE go to electrical trouble shooting, then select connector views, look for your connector and note it's number. Then goto connector locations. You will have to search the photos to get the position it is fitted in.
