hi, just fitted a new headgasket and second hand head, skimmed and tested, car runs fine no overheating, loads of power, no smoke, heater was blowing cold so bled it and warm air, great, today its blowing cold air again so put funnel into thermo hole and filled that and ran car, squeezed hoses again to clear any airlock, heater started blowing hot again so went for a run again and after 5 mins its blowing cold again, cant see any leaks , does it sound like hg again, cheers:confused:

when the engine is running is there any little bubbles appaering the ine coolant tank. not on about one or two bubbles more like a stream on them. Also when you bleed the system did you have the heaters on full, and on the hot position. Lastly it could be an air lock in the heater matrix

hichecked expansion tank but no bubbles, coolant is right up to neck, had to fill up coolant this morning , about 2 pints, have noticed that theres a drip of water coming from that bend on the bottom of downpipe ( braided bendy bit )water not dripping onto exhaust, when i filled up coolant via funnel into thermostat housing there was lots of bubbles rising then.

You could still have an airlock. The 2 pints could have replaced the last bubble. I would try it again keeping an eye on temp as you run it, and see if the last bit of coolant replacement finally topped off the system.

redid it this way, undid expansion tank top , removed rad bung, topped up tank untill rad was full, replaced rad bung, put funnel into expansion tank and filled up so above engine, removed thermo plug and coolant came out, put thermo plug back in and ran with funnel full above engine in expansion tank, collant rising and loads of bubbles,

every time with mine i need to get the front on the ramps or park it up a hill, then run the engine for a while, and eventually the air lock goes. Its always the heater matrix on mine. Got to change the angle of the engine enough for it to clear. Try it. lots easier than refitting a new head gasket. :)

my drive is quite steep but will try ramps aswell, cant understand how it drives great with no overheating or smoke or oil in water or water in oil, tried lifting expansion tank up above engine but still loads of bubbles 15 mins plus, i can get heater working but if say a hr later it blows cold again, its doing me head in lol:confused::confused:

I've had probs with the little round plastic three way bleed wotsit being blocked causing air locks. There's small bore pipes from the stat housing and the rad going To it then to the header tank? Really small holes in it get blocked, it should let any air out of the top of the engine and the rad. Rad weld etc can block them as can crap! It's easy to check to rule out if nothing else. W

thanks i will check it out, does bubbles in header tank indicate head problem, even after 1 hr bubbles still coming out, more if i rev it:confused:

It certainly can do. Or if there is air in it it can just be shifting it around! Have a sniff of the fumes from the header tank. Exhaust smell? With the cap on does the system pressurise when cold? ie. before it should. Does it just chuck the water out without boiling?
