Hi all,
My TD4 54 plated Freelander 1 is showing an error sign & upon diagnostic, it is showing as Air Flow Meter.
1. Where is it located & how to get there?
2. Can it be cleaned?

The air flow meter is on the left hand side of the air filter housing. If it's showing an error, it's already been disconnected or it's broken. Cleaning will make no difference, replacing it is all you can do

Only replace the MAF with a genuine bosch one, you can use the insert of certain BMW one's which we found is the same and cheaper that's another thread .

So did you find this alternative MAF sensor works as well as the factory replacement?

Hi Nodge.
Yes we all use them as the original cost £140 + depending on where you purchased them from, as Bosch only sell the whole units, not the inserts we found the inserts that are on sale are not genuine Bosch, the BMW one's with the same inserts are only £80 or there about, link below.

Cheers Arctic2. It seems that Bosch has a problem with MAFs. My wife's Bimmer 318 E46 convertible is running like a bag of nails and showing a MAF fault too.

I found one from a salvage place in great shape for £20. I hope it will work.
