I have an annoying air con problem in my Freelander 2 (09 Plate). When the air is humid it blows clouds of condensation (fog/steam) at me through the vents. The drain is clear, the pollen filter is dry, the gas is topped up and the air cools really well. This is OK when it is a hot sunny day but when it rains I can't demist the screen as the thing is blowing 'water' onto the already steamed up screen. My local garage (who are good) say there doesn't appear to be anything wrong but that the cooling matrix develops condensation on the vanes as soon as the air con is switched on. Anyone had a similar problem?

Did you switched on the Air Con automatically when you start the Freelander, Maybe you need to allow the system to warm up first. Also you will have windscreen demister fitted for conditions like for winter time which creates a similar pattern of imbalance.

You need to leave aircon on permanently, it acts as a dryer, if it's too cold just put some heat on, when you use demist function aircon is engaged automatically

Are you drawing in fresh air from outside or recycling the moist air inside the cabin?

funny I had the same problem , my ac had been regassed but then found it was spitting water out the vents , I replaced the hot water matrix as that was leaking

drove me nuts and checked the pollen filter and that was blocked , replaced it and it stopped the spitting of water out the vents , but didn't seem to make sense , the drain was ok

however it will still do it on number 4 , turn it down to 2 and allow the aircon to run for at least 20 mins then turn it back up and is fine

wonder if it's over gassed

you'd notice if it were ..
the ac.clutch would engage / *disengage fairly rapidly
( * to prevent damage from over pressure )
and the pressure within the compressor has a distinct engine brake effect
so .. on a manual box .. it feels like the brakes are being applied .. then let off ..
sort of like a slow motion abs brake action ..
makes an uncomfortable noise as well

howz about if the ac were low on refrigerant ?
maybe that would hinder ac drying action ?
doesn't an ac system have something called a 'dryer' ..
that sometimes needs to be replaced ?

Air conditioning in conditions of high humidity slight screen misting may be experienced when the air conditioning system is turned on.
It is not a fault; misting will clear after a few seconds once the air conditioning system is operating.

You may find something similar stated in your owners handbook.

Thanks to all for their input but I think I've tried pretty much evrything people have suggested. It isn't a 'slight misting' issue by the way. On a humid day the entire car fogs up in about three minutes. If the vents are set to dash level then they blow a steady stream of thick mist that condenses on the vanes of the vents. Looks like an expensive trip to the dealer!

, maybe cable is slightly out of adjustment and not closing the internal vents 100 percent allowing heat to creep past , when u set it from hot to cold

hope u get it all sorted out and all under warranty

I would, in this case. take it to an air con specialist. Shame you are not over here in Portugal as they are everywhere

When humidity is high , it's not uncommon to see moisture build up on the outside of the window. This is caused when the AC chills the glass enough to condense water out of the air, onto the glass.
