Hi All,

First post so please be gentle!

We have had our D2 for a while and are thrilled with it, predominately bought for towing a horse box.

Unfortunately, it came home on Sunday on the back of a transporter after the nearside suspension sagged and the Boss (Wife) could smell a burning smell.

Earlier today, I replaced both air springs (and a missing bump stop), then watched in disappointment as the bags failed to inflate.

I found that the compressor wasn’t running and when I took it from the mount, discovered the attached air fitting to have melted (inlet pipe I think).

I’ll investigate the compressor tomorrow (fuse) but need to identify the melted fitting, as without it, it doesn’t matter if the compressor is running or not!

Can anyone help identify it? Is it/was it a 10mm push fit stem elbow?

If no-one else has a better idea, except a second hand one, then you might get some parts from this guy on the bay of fleas.

Also, the compressor can time out, if it has run too long so may need resetting using a diagnostics unit. This saves it killing itself by running too long in theory.

Thanks neilly, just checked his site out and like the emergency air bag Schrader valves.

I didn’t know about the compressor timing out... more pitfalls waiting for me.

I have a set, for a just in case emergency.

It is worth giving him a call and asking if he knows what the fitting is that you need.

Yes, definitely melted, but the melted bit pushes/fits inside the compressor body, I’m keen to know if it is a standard stem or something more special.

I’m just off out to check the rest of the compressor so will let you know how I get on.

Nightmare! I’ve literally just ordered one. I would have bought yours if I had known....

Tested this morning, fused link blown.

Removed compressor and connected directly to a 12v supply, nothing.

Tested the motor and it is down to earth.

New compressor, 3 relays and 3 fused links on their way.

This has been quite an expensive week so far.

Now hoping I don’t need to reset something in the ECU.

If this is the case, I might end up buying my own diagnostic tool...

I appreciate I'm coming late to this party, but I did 18 years with a bunch called Pneumax.
Here's a link to a fittings catalogue from them. From what you described I think you need a PLJ1000 on page 13?

This isn't a plug, there's loads out there doing similar stuff and it's all pretty cheap.

Edit 12:25 - On second thoughts it might be a PL10-0*? I'd expect a threaded connection on the compressr, say 1/4" BSP?

Thank you Turktowner, yes, I think it is the stem elbow on page 13. The fitting isn’t threaded.

I have a solution and a root cause... post to follow.

Today I spent a bit more time seeing as it was daylight and not raining.

Stripped the compressor and motor down and the motor was pretty grim.

New compressor, relays and fuseablelinks arriving tomorrow. Hopefully this will be the end and will be sorted!

Just a quick update, all suspension issues resolved.

In summary, an airbag split, caused the compressor to work hard and burnt the motor out. In addition, found a hole in the 4mm air line supplying the bag.

2 new springs, new compressor, relay and fuseable link replaced.

I am going to replace the 4mm air lines next weekend.

Thank you to everyone who helped me with this, I have learnt a lot!
