Yes its that old chestnut.

So expecting the regulars to kindly weigh in!

You all know I've been patiently biding my time looking for a nice clean LHD RR Classic LSE. This week though I've been offered a MY2001 P38, pristine, only 58k km but on springs. Now a mate who ought to know has warned me it won't pass the TUV (German MOT) because the self-leveling of the headlights depends on the EAS getting the car to ride flat. He reckons the conversion was probably done after the last TUV but if the tester knows anything at all about the car it will fail the next. What's the case in other countries?

Let me hasten to add that I don't want springs. That's why I'm looking for the LSE and not an older Classic because the late LSEs were equipped with EAS as sort of a testbed for the P38s. On this P38 I would probably convert it back. But I wondered about the legality of it as this might help with bargaining the price down a bit (they are freakin' expensive over here!!).

Cheers!

Don't think there would be a problem with MOT as long as the lights were aimed correctly. Check is done with vehicle sat level. You would of course be less than intelligent to take a spring equipped P38 for test with the boot full of bags of cement.

It ought to pass a UK mot at the moment but maybe not when the new rules come in. I'm pretty sure it would pass a French MOT, at least at the tester I use, he doesn't even notice the difference between LHD and RHD headlights.

No problem in the UK, also got in touch with VOSA to see if the coils would affect the MOT when it gets changed due to European rules and they assured me that there will be no problem. I had EAS and changed it to coils and would not change back even if someone else offered to pay.
Cheers

Mine is on springs but they don't have MOT's here. A completely useless post probably but worth a gloat : )

Mine is on air springs and i wouldn't change to coils if somebody paid me to do it. :D:D:D
