so got the air bags fitted last weekend, all went well until we tried them out. car wouldnt rise, and could hear air leaking. after putting my arm under the arch to have a feel, the bloody thing blew, body came down on my arm and nearly broke my nose. Was a new dunlop bag, Shocked and annoyed, 2 weekends without a car now!

Maybe the air pipe blew off, it's a push in fit.
Just fitted a set myself, and with the car up I was just about to put my hand under the wheel arch, but thought the better of it.

no thats what i thought initially. But it has actually popped. will add pictures next week, have ordered a new one so ill take it off when it comes.

I can't see how it would pop off unless it was over stretched on fitting with air in it . I have fitted hundreds of these and they go on fine as long as fitted correctly and you don't just jack the car up and inflate them to fit.
They are only dangerous if not fitted correctly in my opinion.

You lowered the car with no air in the bags I would guess. Should have followd my guide.

Doesn't that happen for access mode?

Access mode is 40 mm above the bump stops at the front and 35 mm above at the rear. It is air pressure that holds it there. When fitting a new bag you MUST put some air into it before lowering chassis back down to axle. If you don't do this the bag will not roll over itself and will be deformed. Adding air at that stage can result in what the OP got.

When I installed the rear bags on mine, you could just see they were not going to seat properly.
So the jack wasn't fully lowered, and the air was let in untill the bags took shape.
Then the car was let down.

Is there a link to your guide Datatek?
As The front ones still have to be fitted, all pointers gratefully accepted.

It's in the "How To" section or you can PM me with an email address and I will send you a copy.

Quick update, air bag hadnt burst as such but the top plate had come away from the bag. Car now back on road, bag on its way back to supplier! Next job discs an pads all round, car sitting for 3 weeks has had a bad effect and now also have a sticking caliper
