How do.

I have a Defender 300tdi (1994) that has a split charge set up with a gel auxiliary battery. I have a large winch but I also want to be able to run a number of electrical items when overlanding. I will be pulling a Sankey "expedition" prepared trailer that will have its own leisure battery (100AH deep cycle) and will have a fridge/freezer in it too.

I understand that I will need to upgrade the alternator of the defender and so my questions are:

What is the best type to get? and

Where do I get it from?

All the best

Usually defender alternators are 65amp - you could fit a discovery alternator (100amp) and it will fit straight on with the right pulley fitted :)

You can add another alternator quite easily with a bracket and belt. Have a google search someone sells the kit. Would perhaps take the demand off the original alternator and keep the auxiliary circuit completely separate.
