Hey guys i got a Disco 300tdi 96 reg with a Diff fault and other small issues that i was told about a while ago repaired the NS CV and Member as it wouldnt drive out of diff. and i began to wonder if the MOT had been faked as the guy who helped me repair it said it looked abused and some things shouldnt of passed its MOT. so today i handed it to the garage to have a look from under and they got back with this list:

track rod ns
rear pads
ns front caliper
abs light out disabled or removed?
seals front + rear
exhaust flex + mid
drivers front hub leaking grease.

Now is this alot of work and would cost me alot more money then its worth or should i just put it up for ebay bidding and try get my cash back?

Makes you wonder how people can sleep at night :(

Nothing special or hard to do there, maybe a day tops and less than a ton on new parts and you will know this disco a lot better after that, the abs light is the only one that might take a while to diagnose and sort but never had it doo don't know, the other stuff really wouldn't bother me

thanks for the quick response, the garage said to replace the caliper as its seizing to save a bit of cash can i not just replace the pistons and seals? and to be honest i have no idea what he ment by front and rear seals there are many seals on a car so im going to ask him about that when i go pick it up :)

Aye, it may sound bad, but if you are doing it yourself there ain't too much. I was in the same boat except i sniffed the dodgy MOT before I bought knowing I could do all that. ABS can be a ****er and very frustrating, the caliper is prolly just seized. One you have done the things in the list once it's becomes a piece of ****. Getting some bolts undone will take the most time :)

Report back if you need help :)

parts will not cost you to much if you do it yourself. You didn't say you needed any welding ? Have a good poke around if its not rotten fix it

ill ask when i go pick it up i do know of 2 spots front passenger door frame and back driver passenger door frame has a hole.

thanks for all the advice guys shall look into the important issues first im sure the flex and mid exhaust can wait a tad longer

ok got the list from the garage :) not front and rear seals but both Sills, and also Rear body mount. also the other reason i took it in was due the ABS randomly kicking in and pulling to the NS, could the Caliper Seizing cause that? Looks like i am going to have some fun anyway but i think i might need to start taking night welding classes if i want to keep a Disco ;)

The thing with these old motors is they need love and alot of work. Once you get on top of all the big jobs and do um right then your Mot list should start going down each year to easy fix stuff.
which is good if you are going to keep it

If you are not realy botherd about it some one will buy it MOT or not :crazy_driver:

Once you've got all the callipers working properly it may be that the ABS warning and the pulling sideways problems sort themselves out. Alternatively it may be faults with the sensors or the wiring itself. As others have said, there's a lot (if not all) that you can do yourself. From a garage's point of view it may be cheaper to replace calliper and pistons as a complete unit, but if you're doing it yourself there's no reason not to check the condition of the bores (and in particular the grooves the seals go in) and if they're not pitted, go for new seals and pistons. Plus you can fit stainless ones!

:) i am planning on trying to get it all sorted, just a shame some people abused it and didnt keep on top of the work.. I shall check the condition of the caliper first, once again thanks for all the advice guys shall start getting on top of it :)

if your planning on keeping it invest in a descent welder and just keep practising on bits of scrap.o and dont go for small bottle.get a pub size bottle.it will pay for itself in no time.
