Hello. I have in the dim and distant past owned a Defender, Range Rover and Freelander (no sniggering 
)
We live in the countryside and have recently been plagued with the floods and have had major problems trying to get out of our village. We drive a Nissan Quashqai (no sniggering again ).
So we've decided that we need to get ourselves a 4wd to be able to bypass the flooded lanes and snow/ice when we get some.
We have approx 8k to spend but don't know which to go for. Not interested in a Freelander or Range Rover. Which leaves the Defender swb or the Discovery. For the money I have discovered you can get a much newer Discovery, but which one will be better for what we want?
Any suggestions very welcome plus horror stories and particular models to steer clear of. So far I've found a couple of Discovery's both TD5 2.5 diesel one GS one S both 56k miles with fsh one is a 2000 and one a 2003.
