hi guys i already own a disco series 1 ,been offered a range rover p38 2.5 td which the seller claims is supercharged could this be correct i have had a look on the net but couldn't find anything relating to this model, i haven't payed anything yet just wanted to be sure it isn't just a charged badge that has been stuck on lol

hi fanatic it has a badge on the back saying supercharged he says it was one of 600 that was made with the 2.5 td supercharged dont want to get ripped off thats all

So it should have
a plate somewhere saying who converted it and number out of 600, some sort of history and if in doubt get proper photo's of engine and we can soon see.

Can't say I've heard of a 2.5td supercharged

i will go and see the seller tommoro and get some pics plus more info and post on here thanks for the help

Simple really look under the bonnet. The bloody great supercharger being driven by a belt should be clearly visable. One would ask just where on a 2.5 they would get a supercharger to fit inside the engine compartment. Also the name reference 2.5 TD supercharged, should cause a little concern as TD means turbo diesel. You cannot have both it's one or the other.

Strictly speaking Turbocharging is a form of Supercharging (compressing the air before it enters the cylinders) so all 2.5TDs are Supercharged.
It is general practise to refer a a mechanically driven device at a supercharger, and a device driven by exhaust pressure as a turbocharger.

Sounds like bollocks post to me that confuses the issue, it's either normally aspirated or turbo or suprecharged.

Unless it is a properly converted limited edition-run from it
Also if it is a limited edition-check you can insure it:croc:

You can have both.

Its called compound charging and is designed to overcome lag.

Supercharger provides low down boost, and the turbo picks up further up the range.

VW use it successfully on some of there engines.......1.4 with 170bhp anyone??????

Supercharging and Turbo charging whilst they both provide high pressure air to the engine, are different in that a super charger is always active. In other words the power is available from low to high RPMs whilst the turbo charger does not work at low RPMs. A turbo charger takes no power from the engine, whereas the super charger needs a considerable amount of the power gained by it's use, to drive it.
