Can anyone please explain how I can adjust the heater vents in my 90? When I try to direct air at the windshield I get an asthmatic wheeze from the windshield vents and nice toasty feet. When I direct it at my feet I get toasty feet. I think the vents aiming at my tootsies are remaining open. How do I adjust those?
 
I know that much. What I mean is that when it's up, I still get air from the foot vents and very little from the windscreen vents. When it's down I get none from the windscreen.
 
Pop the plastic trim off the side and check the lever is actually moving properly into the right positions. While in there I think you can adjust the cable
 
Look on top of the heater box under the bonnet, you will see a lever coming out of the top which moves a flap inside the box. As you operate the control on the dash a cable from it moves the lever directing flow to screen or footwell. Check the cable is moving lever ok.

The flap inside the heater-box adjusts the air-mix (and thereby the temperature) and a second flap that shuts off the heater completely.

The dashboard flap control operates the flaps inside the lower dashboard duct, it is not unknown for these to come adrift and removing the top of the lower-dash is the only way to get inside (it unscrews but you need to get to the top of it first).
That said, as already stated check that the cable is actually moving correctly when the lever is moved.
 
Litch is correct, the memory ain't what it used to be. It's a few years since I took the air duct when changing bulkhead.
 
The lower dash is basically a big open space and flow is directed by the two vents that aim at your feet. The cable to control flow is attached to these. With it in position to aim flow at the window the flaps on the lower vents are completely closed off. In the middle position these flaps are half open and at the bottom position they are fully open. It's a very short cable so it doesn't get stretched or stuck often but what does happen is that the flaps on the lower vents become stiff and jam open, regardless of the position of the lever. Remove the plastic vents and look at the flaps with the level in all positions
