Probably already know this:
If it is low it surely means it is leaking?

The difference between my ACE when it was not leaking was enormous.
It is worth fixing before it gives trouble, make sure it is topped up, it cost me an ACE pump when my ran dry. :)

cool:cool:, i will get some and top it up, and then go from there,
did i read right that the valve block is underneth the floor of the drivers seat?, might have a quick look just to be sure

Yes it is, if it is leaking I highly recommend to mod it to regular hydraulic pressure fittings.
Don't waste your time with the Land Rover o-rings connection it is just crap.

I done that in mine. it cost me £80

OK, so you get the valve block machined to except the new hydraulic fittings, no worries with that as my mate works with cnc's etc, but do the lines just re-attach ?

The correct part number for the Cold Climate Fluid for ACE and PAS is STC50519
It's not cheap, £22 for 1 litre from the Land Rover main stealer. It's a bit cheaper and available on the bay.

So are the pas and ace fluids the same?,i know they share the same resi , but thought it was different halves?

Yep! both the same.
You'll know if it's the right stuff, to quote that line from Star Trek, "It is ..... green"

Oh OK, I have some pas fluid , so shall top it up with that, and will then pick some more up next time I'm at the local landy shop(might get an account ) as ownership is expensive :D

I don't know how true it is, but I believe that there have been cases of the seals in the power steering system being attacked by the wrong selection of fluid.
LR do say that Dexron can be used in an emergency, but the correct fluid is Cold Climate Fluid.

I have Dextron III in mine, no issues so far. Mine has been completely empty before I put that in though. The other fluid is hard to come by here and after the hassle I had I opted for something that I could fill up everywhere. Ironically that has not been needed after the mod to pressure fittings.

That is dextron III

It will do the job. How bad is the leak? I had to fill mine every 2 days in the end. I forgot one day and burned my pump out.

If it isn't leaking to bad I would get the proper stuff, although I know of a lot of people with Dextron III in it who had no problem and have been using it for years.

I just don't like mixing oils, myself but know people who have done that without an issue

I'm not sure if the ace is leaking or not yet, the pas is a bit , I guess I top that up once a month , (it's still within its min/max)
