Hey,

Did I search for this but found nothing useful.

I need recovery points as I have none except the dodgy lashing eyes though would like to know what is considered acceptable for recovery.

The front - Paddock Heavy Duty Ali Steering guard with recovery eyes
The rear - Tow Bar with Jate Ring

Both acceptable for recovering a Defender 90?

At lot to do with what is acceptable is chassis condition, if its not to clever jate rings will pull through and a centre point on the x member could cause trouble.
I prefer jate rings because they spread the load
 
From what im told the chassis is rust free and solid. From me looking at it as well looks solid..

wot do you mean tow bar with jate ring?

no thats wrong. jate rings go on the chassis rail. get 2 and a bridle strop between em to spread the load. A d shackle round a 50mm ball will work but last resort. Think bate and dixon towbars are better.
 
Ahh gotcha.

Know where I can get one of these? Or at least the correct term for what it is so I can search for it.

thats a bow shackle, looks like its on american style tow hitch adaptor. Has it got a ball-the motor ya after?

Safari equipe about 130 quid. I have one on my 90 and its excellent. You can either plug in a tow hitch or the recovery shackle. It's called a 2" receiver
 
Yes but as has been said, it's better for your rear cross member if you spread the load down the chassis legs!

If you fit 2 Jate rings at the back with a bridle it's better than a single point on the middle of your cross member.

Jate rings are about £20 a pair I think and then a bridle is maybe another £20? Been a while since I bought mine!
 
iirc the tow ball hitch has a max load of 3.5T, your vehicle weighs 2 and a bit, your not going to use it until your stuck and I believe your wheels being half in mud will be equal to 2 or 3 times your weight (im sure someone will come up with the correct answer for that)...

As said try to pull on your chassis and not the cross member, only got to take 1 awkward snatch and you could rip your x-member apart!!
 
which is why most decent tow points and recovery hitches have bars going down onto the chassis where the lashing eyes attach.
