Yep hottest day so far take the RR out and AC cooling.
Pretty damned sure it was working last weekend.
Checked the relays,12, 13 &14, they are very hot almost untouchable especially No.14.
They seem to be clicking on and off when ignition switched on and off.
Didn't click when turning AC on and off with engine running and the AC pump clutch is not engaging hence no cooling i guess.
According to a bill when i bought the beast it had just been re-gassed and serviced and had a new AC condenser fitted about 2000 miles ago.
Any bright ideas would be a great help.

you can buy a DIY A/C kit orf ebay. they come with gas, leak detector/sealant and oil. if you buy one get the one that has the gauge atttached to the filler hose rather than the slidey stick thing.
that way you can check if you have gas and if need be you can top up.
other than that have you checked the fuses?

There is one of the nationwide tyre shops up here advertising free checks on your a/c system - can't remember which one though and they probably wouldn't be much use anyway
just a thought.................................................

not to sure but isnt there like a valve you can see the top of if the gas is up to pressure, can see a green dot if i am not mistaken.

First things first, is the handbook showing on the display at all??

Secondly when put the temps on AUTO LO both sides does the compressor clutch kick in?? On a V8 engine its right at the top of the engine so should be easy to see.

just went down and tried settings you suggested the Auto went out when I went from 16 to Lo??? Still nothing happened with clutch just not clicking in.

Do you have a voltage tester?? Can you check whether you are getting 12 volts at the compressor?? You might have the clutch problem where you need to remove a shim as the air gap is too big.

See Range Rover P38/4.0/4.6 Common Problems and Fixes

Its normal for AUTO to disappear when you select LO. I just said to do that so you could def make sure the A/C was set to on.

If it was low on gas the book icon would be showing as there wouldnt be any pressure in the system.

I would begin with checking to see if there is 12 volts and the compressor when the A/C is on LO with the fans on full.

Bingo AC now working.
Solution got some contact cleaner and cleaned all contacts to compressor and also sprayed to back of clutch where wires enter. Old age and a bit of muck i guess.
