Hello all!
The AC in my 01 Freelander have not worked since I bought it. A couple of weeks ago, I got i refilled by a local garage, no major leaks, the machine did not detect anything, and the system worked fine after det regas. (50grams).
I do understand that it coult very well build a vaccum even if it is a small leak.

Well, after 24 hours....Good by cool air. I could see the leak, some condensation on the pipes. Probably some O-rings that have failed.
This was confired by using a UV light and googles, the leak is in deed there.

So, the question. Is this something i change myself? I can get the garage to empty the system for me, free of charge. Any suggestions? Leave it to the people who know what they are doing?

if it has not been filled for years previously the o-rings will have gone dry and perished.

no amount of re-filling will solve your problem the whole system will need a refurb, and at prospect of that vast cost I have decided to leave mine as is.
 
According to the last owner, it did work until 2012, so it's not been out of service for years. In addition,
Found no other leaks with the uv light, only the o rings. Is it a serviceable part as long as I get the garage to evacuate all the gas?
 
O rings are not hard to change undo the bolt you see and the pipes would pull apart fixed a mondeo mk3 leak with new seal also I did use a tad of sealant when rebuilding had the car a few years never leaked
 
Cheers Matt. I'll have a go. As long as the system is empty, I can't really see why I can tinker with it. :)

Your air con tubes have a cable tie around them supporting something else........??

could this be why the joint is leaking ??

Well spotted Sir. However, the cable tie was used after the AC stopped working, and only for a few minutes when fixing a broken bracket for the PAS.. (Which is when I took these pictures.. :) )

I have had the system degassed and got the Orings out. The larger one seem to be where the leak accured. Ordering some new ones from the link Freelaner suggested and hoping for the best, if it does not work, though luck. :)

Don't leave the pipes open to the air for longer than necessary. It might pay to refit the pipes and O rings until the replacements arrive. This is because the drier will absorb moisture from the air rendering it useless.

Thanks for the tip Nodge! It's refitted without the O rings, will fit them asap tomorrow!
