It's probably the accumulator, mine has just started doing this since the very cold weather. What is happening is that it is taking the pump some time to re-pressurize the system. If I let is tick over for a couple of minutes before moving off the light goes out as normal and continues to do so for the rest of the day although the pump can be heard coming on more often than usual. Shall be ordering a new accumulator.
Maybe in your case accumulator is gettig tired. But under normal circumstances. You will get ABS, handbrake light and TC on when you put ignition to position 2. ABS light should come on for a second or so then go out and come on again. It should not go out again until the vehicle has reached 5 mph. If you switch on, handbrake off in park, hand brake lamp and TC lamp will stay on until accumulator is pressured, up to 40 seconds to do this. Then both should go out leaving ABS lamp on until you move off. Anymore than 40 seconds suspect accumulator is on it's way home.
That describes the normal process exactly, it's just that it now takes longer than 40 seconds to re-pressurise the system. Of course it could be the pump but I'm hoping not as it works fine after the first start of the day.
I would say accumulator Keith. Mine is getting like that used to be a few seconds now it's getting longer. When bladder in accumulator is good pump is pumping against bladder pressure so it gets there quicker. When bladder is weak the pump has almost to fill the sphere to get up to pressure so it takes longer.
How much is an accumulator for a P38?
Seems like bladders and age are an issue with P38's as well, at least it doesn't have to get up in the middle of the night.........................

Up in themiddle of the night! Chance would be a fine thing, my P38 is much better at sinking down over night than even staying at the level I left it at:rolly:
