Strange one for you chaps.
Reading the old threads for ABS and HDC got me thinking....

when I turn key one click to initiate pre-test my abs light comes on but then goes off with all the other lights...

Isn't it meant to stay on until you hit 8mph or at least start moving - or is this normal for a 2003 TD4 vehicle.

only stays on on older models....... don't go looking for any more problems

Hi Joe,

This is what my 2004 TD4 does. Always has since new.

Switch on ignition.

ALL warning lights come on

Most of them go off after 10 seconds leaving.......

ONLY the 'oilcan', the 'box with + and - in it', and the one my wife calls 'the orange helicopter'.

Then I start the car and drive away.........

So - Yes the abs light goes out - no 8mph or anything like that at all.

Hi Joe,

relax - youre fine..

I have a 99 XEDi, but mine stays on til about 8 mph.. The difference is because some time during the 2002 model year, LR made HDC standard on ALL trim levels, and upgraded/improved the traction control & ABS software to give you better results that the older software.

The older trucks like mine, have to get to 6-8mph to initialize by seeing the sensors, you guys with hippos from 51/02 onwards, have the improved software, so the light just does a self test, then goes out before you move!!

Rest easy my friend, you dont have a problem & have been fed some quality advice by cox, singvogel & chaser!

I understand the older models (like mine) have passive abs sensors and need the car to go up to some 8 kms/miles per hour and then go out where the newer cars have the active sensors, they don't need any rotation of the wheels to be checked and extinguished.
