Hi guys,

Having trouble with the brakes on my 89 RRC V8.
Having bled the entire system by the book using a pressure bleeder I have come across a problem. The brake pedal will tavel a good inch before it starts to get any resistence.
Put over a gallon of fresh fluid through and have absolutely no air in the system. The only part I have changed is the brake booster.
Just for the hell of it I removed the pin from the brake pedal so I could move the booster arm by hand. I can shove it all the way in. On another booster block I have I can only move the arm 1/4 inch by hand.

Could this be down to the seals being shot? There is an odd hiss/sucking noise when pumping the pedal on current Booster.

As I said, there is no air in system, all other parts are in good order and no faults on ABS indicator.

Any insite would be gratefully received.

sounds like a bastid buddy, I keep well clear of any jobs on the brakes as you know but thinking back that guy I refered to you on here ended up using 11 litres of fluid to bleed his up after much ado like your having and thinking he had all the air out.

does it not bleed its self with the pump so long as you work the nipple correcly :p

Bleed it again. Like Fett said, you can use a lot of fluid bleeding the ABS. How long does the pump run?

Check your wheel bearings. I once made the mistake of thinking I had a brake problem, changed the booster and it still wasn't right. I then found a rather wobbly front wheel bearing.

Don't know about hissing noises; if it is a seal problem I think you'll need another booster - I'm fairly sure you can't buy seal kits as the booster is a non-serviceable item. Apart from that, I don't think you want to be messing about with the booster block, it is a high pressure system and safety critical.

Ok, got it all working perfectly. Found that the brake switch had some faulty wiring (previously bodged install of Cruise control) Also found out that the ECU was Fecked.
Sorted these problems out and re bled system. No air in the system and got a great pedal. But after moving it around the driveway the pedal has become almost solid.
Brakes are almost locked on solid (feels mainly the front ones, but that may be due to the standard brake Front/rear biasing)
Could this be caused by the Pump giving to much pressure?
