Overview

Studsaver
The studsaver is a simple, highly effective tool for repairing damaged threads. Due to the special design it will repair M6 to M20 and M22 to M38 as well as 1/4 in. to 1 1/2 in. UNC and UNF thread types.

• Will repair threads even when they are covered with paint, concrete or rust
  Available in two sizes
  Spare blade sets are available separately

Note
The studsaver must be used in conjunction with a lubricant, preferably a cutting type oil.

handy! already have a tap and die set though!

I've had this tool for donkey's years.
It covers 8 different thread pitches and you use it (carefully) like a file, to restore the damaged thread.
It's got me out of trouble many a time.

wot a helpful chappie yu are.

at 25 quid call me a tight yorkshire it but i tend to buy new lol.. and carry a few packs of sizes on me.

i buy direct from my fave ebay nut and bolt supplier, they normally give me a good deal. i find repairing the thread to messy i do have a tap n die set for emergency's but i've only used it a couple of times.

But a tip for peeps to make a new bolt buy a cheap metric bolt in your size say m8 ect and ask for partially threaded. longer than you need it cut it to the length you need and then as it was partially threaded you should be left with a blank bolt for you to re tap to the thread of your choice saves a fortune on harder to get thread sizes

partial threads are normally the twice diameter + 6mm

so a M8 partial thread would be 24mm thread. so if you need a M8 x 40 in fine thread you would buy a M8 x 65 or bigger and then cut at 40mm and then rethread,

i use a needle file cost me a quid does a crackin job fa me

hehe i used a hacksaw on the last one i had to do and it left the cleanest mend i've ever done! Was a bit fiddly though (and it was the big thread off of the wheel hub so these bits of kit might have struggled!) but worked fine!
