well i decided to change the a frame ball joint and my rear shocks yesterday!

i had to get the local landy indie garage to get the ball joint out of the casting as it was well stuck in! i could see the mechanic smacking it with a big old hammer to no avail, then the got the oxy torch out untill it was all glowing red then smacked it abit more and it came out! after letting it cool he cleaned all the threads and mating surfaces and stuck a new one in for me. 8 quid labour! well worth it!
undid the bottom mount of the drivers side shock and then it dropped to the floor, leaving the top part attached! snapped in half!

so now i have a lovely non clunking (!!!) non bouncing nice solid feeling land rover!
i like how everything i do to it seems to improve her massively!

pretty chuffed with that 95 quid.

I did ball joint last month, best £20 i've spent in a long time, and good to use the sledge hammer again!

Good to see a result without drama! :)
I have a new self leveling unit + A frame ball joint to fit. Looks straight forward on paper and Busters guide sorts sorts the ball joint........ I put mine on axel stands a few days back and slithered underneath. Boy does it look different than Haynes.... I cant see how I can get the leverage/purchase to strip it out while lying on my back. I need a pit and think I will have to pay or risk getting stranded on my drive... hey ho!! :)

Had to do the a frame ball joint for mot. When i went to get the new parts i asked if they could fit the joint in the housing, asked how much he laughed and said id spent enough over last few months,( calipers, discs, pads, rear shoes, cylinders, h/brake cable and drop arm). The rest is easy

i gave all the related bolts a good soaking in wd40 3 times leading up to it, they all came out a treat! as i say tho, its probably worth letting someone hit it out, unless mine was just unusually hard!

i cant believe the difference it has made tho!

It's great when you do something and get an instant result, I'm gonna have to do my suspension too as it's bouncing around all over the show

definitely. i was glad i found that snapped shock too! must have been like that for a while as it had ceased down.
