Hi, every one not sure if this is the correct place to post this. But i live in Dubai Temprature can reach 50oc no problem and with the A/C in the Defender 130 NON EXISTENT i was wonder has any one ever attempted adding A/C buy them selves.

or by a mechanic if so can you please let me know how much it cost.

thank all

ive been condidering this.

If you dont have roof height issues you could fit an aircon unit to the roof.

also which engine.
Some 200tdi had air con mounts and you could use the disco kit for that.

im considering the disco option and mount the rad further back to accomodate the air con rad.

The standard system copes in the double cab , but any bigger volume then you need to look elsewhere. Good quality window tint helps a lot , not the darkest but the best infra red rejection. I used ray ban film in my 130 HCPU in Aus . I have fitted a Red Dot roof topunit R9727 to my 110V8CSW , that handled 50C ambient, and with the heat from the V8 under the front.
I used a Sanden rotary compressor iirc a sd7 high output it weighs about 105lbs and so you have to put some reinforcing strips on front roof it also adds about afoot to vehicle height .
Its not that difficult to fit just acouple of pipes from cmpressor upto unit , and a 12v power supply . They are not cheap £1500 to £2000 just for the roof unit IIRC . You have the added benefit of being able to fit a donaldson to filter the incoming fresh air so stops dust , and by pressurising the inside of the vehicle keeps dust out as well.

Thanks all for the help, this is great info, i shall do a little research on the items that you have said and will post a more detailed reply later as this shall be a big concern for me in Dubai... BUT IT WONT STOP ME LOVING THE DEFENDER...

Au the best
