Hi all. When I bought this car (about 2 months ago) it had an existing problem whereby the A/C fan speed couldn't be controlled. I looked on here and found pretty quickly this was likely caused by the FSR, so I replaced it which resolved the issue - A/C fans have been working fine for two months, I have had full control over speed, temp and direction (vents), etc.

Just today, the hottest day so far, I was driving home and heard a light whistling noise. So to see whether it was coming from the A/C I turned it off and sure enough the noise went away. I thought maybe it was because it's really hot out, but when I turned it back on the fan speed went to full and now won't stop - even when I take the key out and lock the car! Sure fire way to a flat battery..

Trouble is most solutions I find on here for this are to replace the FSR.. but it's brand new! Unless I got a dud which has burned out after 2 months (unlikely)?

Any thoughts / ideas?

Interior fan or condensor fan?

Interior fan can be set to come on as auxillary cooling at a set time on the computer.

I would be looking at a stuck relay!

It's the interior fan, for sure. When the ignition is on the blowers are at max with zero control over fan speed now, all since I turned it off and back on to see where the whistle was coming from. With the ignition off it slows a bit, but not a great deal. Have disconnected the battery for now so I don't have a dead car tomorrow, but then again I don't fancy driving it for the hour each way I need to with the fans on full.

Any ideas on which relay? Are they all in the fusebox like the P38 (which I'm a little more familiar with, for my woes)?

Yeah, I already replaced the FSR, as mentioned in the first post. I sincerely hope it's not the brand new resistor I only fitted a few short weeks ago.

Ahh I think that's a Chinese jobby. I've seen these wholesale at £6 each. Even the gen behr ones don't last very long , I'd change it again if I were you. Either a behr or a meyle one. Expect to pay around £50 online

Poop. Ok. This is the one I was originally going to get, before finding it cheaper in eBay. Silly me. Go with the Powerful UK item?

The BMW's use the same part, can be had cheaper from them than dealer prices!

From a BMW main dealer.....

Sometimes they can be cheaper than LR or even a Landy Parts specialist!

Thanks, I'll ring round both LR & BMW stealers on Monday (guess they'll be closed tomorrow) and get some prices. Cheers chaps. Gonna be seeking a refund from the eBay store if this part has failed!

Saint , I think the bmw ones are slightly different in that they don't locate in the housing the same way

The cooling sink is slightly different but the case is the same i'm sure!

Some guys on here have used the BMW part, search for the threads you should find some info!

They seem to have genuine stickers on. I know they could easily be faked but I don't think the copies are being passed off as genuine. People buy them anyway cause they are cheaper

Gotta admit, the £36 one from LandRoverSparesUK on eBay does look genuine, has Land Rover on the box and BMW on the part, which makes sense. Have ordered one, let's hope it does the trick.

Guess I'll be driving the wife's car today though. It's times like this I'm glad I bought her an Alfa Romeo 159 Q4 3.2 V6 :)
