Hi I'm after some advice, my 98 disco v8, i get a whistling sound from the engine sounds like it coming from the plenum chamber, plus sometimes a loss in power, also mpg in single figures, any ideas? Thanks

No intro? Could be.
Split hose
Cracked cover
Leaking manifold.
Blown gasket.
Vacuum hose.
Ripped filter.
Slipped liners.
One bank not firing.
Head gasket.

Thanks for the replys, the engine doesn't seem to be misfiring, I can put a cup a tea on the rocker cover with the engine running on tick over, but when I start the engine from cold as soon as I put my foot on the accelerator pedal it nearly dies, then I hear the whistling noise, after a minute its fine but still get the whistle, I'm hoping its a vacuum pipe that's knacked.

Sounds most likely. Check vacuum advance anorl.

Vacuum advance has a pipe running from plenum to pump on dizzy.
