hi

i have got a landy 90 2.5 diesal its B reg and i have a problem with the indicators they are not working there the lights on the dash are not comign on either when the stalk is moved

also the spedo is not working

have any ideas on what the problems could be

the speedo will almost certainnly be a broken cable - it runs from the gearbox to the speedo.

As for the indicators, have you checked anything?

The fault could be switch, relay, wiring, hazard light switch.

Start with a new relay cos they are really cheap.
 
Its probably the hazard switch or relay - my hazard switch burnt up and it was staying live on half the circuit that kills the stalk.
 
if you unplug the hazard switch completely the system still works - it just doesn't disable the indicators when you switch off the ignition.
 
ok thanks for the advice i will buy a new cable for the speedo then and ill have a closer look at the indicators when its a bit more day light
 
Check that the cable hasn't just come out of the gearbox, the little bracket that holds them in can rust and it will fall out - also they can come out the back of the speedo if the clips have been damaged at some point.

If you remove the hazard switch, you remove part of the circuit and the indicators shouldn't work.

I had a problem with my hazards when I first got my 90 and I looked at two others to help me with tracing faults.

If I took the switches out - or disconnected them - then no part of the flasher system would work at all.
 
Well, both of my LR's have had working indicators with no hazard switch. I know its part of the circuit, but i seem to be cursed with breaking them. And, like i say, they both had fully working indicators, that continued to work with the ignition off instead of switching off.

Maybe they changed the wiring with the later ones, my 110 was an 1986, and my 90 is a 1984.
 
Well I think they did because I bought two new switches to get mine to work, the first one worked in another vehicle but not mine - the second one looked the same and worked in mine.

I had 4 switches in pieces at one point and found that in 3 of them the contacts were set out differently, and that a contact sat above the other and on the other one it sat below.

I must say when auto electrics get behind the dash thats where I stop looking!
 
nah see im (apparently) doing a degree in electronics, so i got no excuse.

Although helping me friend re-wire his 90 in a car park was fun, esp when we almost set fire to it...

I can't really understand why leyland decided to wire that switch in as so much of the circuit, as it means they need loads of contacts and so are really stiff, and so fail quickly,

In all honesty i have had 5... the one in my 110 was broken, so i bought a paddocks one which was in it when i sold it.

The one in my 90 was broken, so i bought a genuine second hand one, which fell apart one night, so i bought a genuine lucas one, which was belive it or not assembled upside down. As was the other one the local indie had in stock - so i took one and reassembled it the right way up. Stupid lucas...
 
Why do you think I have a flashing beacon on the roof of mine? That switch gets used twice a year - before MOT, during MOT.

My G reg 90 (1990) was the same, I only replaced my broken hazard switch for the MOT and the indicators worked fine without it in place.

Why not start with a hazard warning light, just make sure you get the correct pin replacement. There pretty cheep on ebay (if you dont need it you could just sell it again, but if your like me you'll probably smash it with your knee whilst getting in/out so you might as well have a spare) or just nab one from your local breakers.

As i said, change the relay. Ive broken a few of those too, they are behind the fuse panel. Mine frequently got filled with water until i sealed this one shut with areldite.

Where abouts are you based? If you fancy, you are welcome to bring it here (or sponsor me to come to you :D) and we can investigate further if you dont have any joy?
 
cheers guys ill get a relay and a hazard switch and go from there ill take a look later when i get home

im in bristol m8 prob a bit far to come lol ill have a bash my self i think if not i knlow a few people who could help cheers any way
 
I had an indicator issue the other day, like olmasters, I'd bashed the hazard switch with my knee and bost it.

Indicators stopped working straight away.

The indicators work without the hazards switch IF you leave the pins in to complete the circuit.

Anyway in the end I got a new switch and everythings hunky dory.
 
im going to give it a go at the weekend take the switch out and by a new one im goign to change all the fuses as they dont look all that good
