I replaced the fuel gauge's sender unit on my 90 a couple of years ago. Since then, I have not been happy with the reading. It reads 3/4 full when I brim the tank and obviously reads practically empty when there's about 15 litres left in the tank. Now I know that this is not necessarily a bad thing as I am not risking running out of fuel but I like my instruments to be as accurate as possible. Should I bend the float a little bit?

Yes, that will do it. You just need to change the position of the float in refernce to the sliding contact in the gauge.

Pull the sender out, hold it in the position it would be in the tank, then bend the float end down a bit. I'd do it up by the gauge not right at the float end - otherwise you might end up with the arm hitting the top of the tank and the reading still being off.
