I have just dropped the oil and filter on my 1991 90 2.5 turbo engine.
There was only about 4 litres of oil that came out. When I refilled after the filter change, I only had to put 4 litres in.
yet the manual states over 6 litres of oil?

any ideas, does this sound right, or am I looking at the wrong book?
and yes it was carried out on a level surface.

normally hold over 6.5 litres are you sure its the right dipstick or cap on stick hasnt moved

Sorry if I may be asking a silly question, but did you give the oil time to settle before checking the dipstick?

It is a common fault that a securing ring for the dipstick moves and shows less oil.....definitely put 6.5 litres in and then mark your dipstick now showing the correct level ( small nick with a hacksaw etc ) for future 'topping up' etc

yes I have let the oil settle.

not checked to see if the dipstick has dropped yet, but that's looking favourite.

always remember to run the engine first so oil is pumped into the oil filter and canister etc, before confirming the oil level on the dipstick!

I have checked dipstick holder, it looks ok? how do I know if it has dropped.

does anyone have a photo of the view from above, or a measurement from engine to top of tube?

check by filling engine with correct amount of oil
